An 80 degree Spring?

Familycarla

Are you sitting down?  You might want to, I have some shocking news!  A few weeks ago we got up into the 80's here in WASHINGTON!!!!  HECK YES!   This rarely happens around here, even the dead middle summer we hardly ever see 80 degree weather.  (and please remind me again on why I live here?)

Let me let you in on a little secret.  I tend to get a little nutty about the weather when the forecast calls for sun and warm temperatures.  Just ask Dan.  I actually feel a bit sorry for him.  As soon as the forecast calls for nice weather....I am rushing around the house planning  and packing things.  All kind of things.  I bust out the swimsuits, towels, frisbees, the cooler, everything I can think of.   The whole family knows that I go into "sun mode" and they don't even dare whine or argue about anything that I come with for things to do.  When the sun is out, I make the whole family be outside for the WHOLE day....hiking, biking, trips to the beach, going to the park walking around town, and blah, blah, blah.  I don't even let them come inside to eat or brush their teeth.  I have them so well trained. :)

We decided to enjoy a Sunday beach day.  We packed up some lunches and the kids each brought a friend. The day was filled with making memories on the beach.  Digging holes, riding logs in the water, sun tanning, reading and best of all???  Eating.  It was so relaxing and fun!  I even won a "double-dog" dare and went swimming!!! (Ok, not actually swimming, but I did go all the way in!!!!  Brrr it was FREEZING!  I am very proud of myself because Dan was a little baby and stayed on the shore!)  I sure hope this is a sign to come for a warm and sunny summer.  As I look out the window right now, it is grey, raining, and miserable.  I will just keep remembering the memories of us at the beach in 85 degree weather in April!

Oh ya, and here is another thing I wanted to talk to you about!!!!  Look at my chin!!!!  All these years have gone by and NOBODY has TOLD me that I HAVE A JAY LENO CHIN???  What is up with that?  From now on, just call me "Jay".......

On another note, check out these AWESOME funky, crazy, hip, hippy, hipster, rockin' pants I found on the clearance rack at JCPENNY's the other day.  $4.00 baby!!!!  You only live once right????  I think I may wear them everyday.  Poor Dan.

Lemon Drop Time!

Here is a little commissioned piece I was working on the other day.  Thought it would be a perfect time to post this.  Today is totally a "Lemon Drop" kinda day!  The weather is a balmy 87 degrees, the sun is shining down, and it is absolutely gorgeous outside!  I love, love, love it!  Since we don't get this very often, I am making my blog post quick so I can get out on the deck!

We have another busy week ahead.  Tomorrow is the market, then Dan's parents will be staying with us for the week.  I love when company comes to visit.  I get to play tourist and enjoy the wonderful activities and sights of the local area.  Western Washington is so beautiful with its looming mountains, salt water coves, and all these evergreens.  I really do love where I live, even though I constantly complain about the weather.  I have the whole week planned out with a ton of activities and am starting to wonder if we over-booked ourselves yet again!  I have a bad habit of always being on the GO!  The summer is coming to an end and it has been such an exciting whirlwind of adventures!  I will honestly be glad to see fall roll in, have a schedule again with the kids back in school, and take a break. Until then.........

Cheers to a Happy Summer Day in Anacortes!  Hip-Hip-Hooray!

Vino and Coffee......

Geeeeesh!  How can it possibly be a full week into August already?  Where has our summer gone?  Oh wait, that is right, we technically don't have a summer here in Washington.  We did actually have a gorgeous 90 degree weekend, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining.  After some long busy weeks, we took the weekend off!  What a blast!  We headed to the beach after our 6 mile run on Saturday.  We did nothing but lay in the sun, nap, and read our books.  My daughter headed off to her first outdoor concert with a friend.  They went to Warp Tour, which apparently is the coolest event ever?  I was fortune enough not to have to chaperone!  Wahooo!  After checking out the venue online, I was very grateful.  It look like a bunch of skater-punk bands that wore make-up and did a lot of screaming.....ugh.  The joy of raising teenagers.  Sunday we headed to the Anacortes Art Festival, checked out the festivities, and ate the BIGGEST elephant ear I have ever seen.  I was able to snap three pictures before the camera died.  Oh joy. We all decided to head out early due to tummy aches full of fried dough.

This week I have been busy, busy, busy.....painting, painting, painting.  I am currently working on an "Anacortes" series.  So fun to paint some local sites! :) I will be sure to share with you when I get them completed.  This weekend we are back at the market.....and then will run around frantically all next week......DAN'S PARENT'S ARE COMING!!! Yipppppeeeee!  We have ALOT of cleaning and organizing to do before they get here!  Hopefully we can make this place look like a normal family house instead of our crazy lazy house!!! Ha! Ha!

Here are two little pieces I finished last week: VINO and COFFEE, my two favorite drinks:
