An 80 degree Spring?

Are you sitting down?  You might want to, I have some shocking news!  A few weeks ago we got up into the 80's here in WASHINGTON!!!!  HECK YES!   This rarely happens around here, even the dead middle summer we hardly ever see 80 degree weather.  (and please remind me again on why I live here?)

Let me let you in on a little secret.  I tend to get a little nutty about the weather when the forecast calls for sun and warm temperatures.  Just ask Dan.  I actually feel a bit sorry for him.  As soon as the forecast calls for nice weather....I am rushing around the house planning  and packing things.  All kind of things.  I bust out the swimsuits, towels, frisbees, the cooler, everything I can think of.   The whole family knows that I go into "sun mode" and they don't even dare whine or argue about anything that I come with for things to do.  When the sun is out, I make the whole family be outside for the WHOLE day....hiking, biking, trips to the beach, going to the park walking around town, and blah, blah, blah.  I don't even let them come inside to eat or brush their teeth.  I have them so well trained. :)

We decided to enjoy a Sunday beach day.  We packed up some lunches and the kids each brought a friend. The day was filled with making memories on the beach.  Digging holes, riding logs in the water, sun tanning, reading and best of all???  Eating.  It was so relaxing and fun!  I even won a "double-dog" dare and went swimming!!! (Ok, not actually swimming, but I did go all the way in!!!!  Brrr it was FREEZING!  I am very proud of myself because Dan was a little baby and stayed on the shore!)  I sure hope this is a sign to come for a warm and sunny summer.  As I look out the window right now, it is grey, raining, and miserable.  I will just keep remembering the memories of us at the beach in 85 degree weather in April!

Oh ya, and here is another thing I wanted to talk to you about!!!!  Look at my chin!!!!  All these years have gone by and NOBODY has TOLD me that I HAVE A JAY LENO CHIN???  What is up with that?  From now on, just call me "Jay".......

On another note, check out these AWESOME funky, crazy, hip, hippy, hipster, rockin' pants I found on the clearance rack at JCPENNY's the other day.  $4.00 baby!!!!  You only live once right????  I think I may wear them everyday.  Poor Dan.

Momma’s Day!

Don't forget that Mothers Day is right around the corner!  Just a few more days!  There is something special about this time of year.  The sun starts coming out, spring is in the air and people around these parts seem to be in better spirits.  I haven't always thought this way.  I lost my mom 9 years ago, and I use to dread this time of year from Easter to Mother's Day.  Spring was hard for me. My mom's birthday falls in March,  and she passed away right before Easter in April.  I still think about my mom everyday, we were the best of friends, and I miss her terribly.  We were always goofing off, shopping, and she had the best advice for me.  I would talk to her everyday, I miss hearing her voice the most. Everyone use to tell me that things would get better with time, and I would think to myself "you have got to be kidding me."  The funny thing is that it actually does get better.   This last year has been the best year yet. I think it is all about attitude!  I needed to quit feeling sorry for myself that I didn't have my mom.....and start appreciating the fact that I had an AWESOME mom, and we had a ton of wonderful memories together. The photo above is my mom, sister and I.  I love her rockin' platinum big hair. Total 70's! My sister Kim is on the lower right, and yep, you guessed it........I AM THE EGG-HEAD!

I love being a mom. (well sometimes I don't, this raising teenagers thing is HARD!)  As much as my kiddo's drive me crazy, I wouldn't change it for the world.  I hope when my children are older, I will have a close relationship with them like my mom and I had.  Time has flown, just the other day they were babies, and now they are in their teens!  What happened?  :)

I painted this the other day, it reminds my of Spring.....Easter, and Mother's Day all wrapped up together:

I hope all of you have a wonderful Mother's Day.  Our weather here is going to be in the high seventies!  YAHOOOOO!!  This momma will be at the beach!

Tulip Time!

Family, TravelcarlaComment

Headed out to Skagit Valley AGAIN this past weekend!  The tulips are in full bloom!  We actually had  beautiful sunny weather!  What?  It was in the high sixties, and gorgeous!  We couldn't have asked for a better day.  We headed over to Roozengaarde Farm, paid 5 dollars for parking and hit the fields!  We arrived there in the morning, and I am so glad we did!  The crowds started piling in and traffic was a bit hairy, right around lunch time!  I have to say that that the farms themselves, do a great job of directing traffic, and helping you find a place to park.

After touring the fields, we headed over to La Conner to check out our friend Doug's new art gallery. Doug Bison makes beautiful bronze sculptures.  It was AWESOME!  He has the perfect building to display his Northwest Fine Art.  It you are ever in the area, you should check it out.....Blackfish Gallery.

After visiting for a bit, we walked around the little touristy town of  La Conner, checked out some shops and bought some ice cream cones!  You always have to buy an ice cream cone on a sunny day, especially if you are a Washingtonian!  HA! HA!  All in all, it was an incredible Sunday.  So glad to be outside, enjoying our weather. Here are a few pictures I snapped of the tulips. If you haven't been before, be sure to get the Skagit County Tulip Festival on your bucket list!

Happy Spring!

A Sunset in Spring

Dan and I saw a sunset the other night.  Proof that yes, the sun still exists in Washington State!  Yahoooooo!  If we ever make it out of this weather without turning into slugs it will be a major miracle!  We had yet another week of rain, rain, rain.  On a good note, the sun is shining today.  We might even get above 50 degrees. Wow. I am going to go break out my shorts, flip-flops, and sun glasses.  If we are really lucky we can hunt Easter eggs outside tomorrow morning!  I have already forewarned the kids that if they see the Easter bunny he may be coated with moss, mildew and slime.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

It has been a long winter.  I am starting to wonder if spring will ever arrive.  Right now outside the wind is howling!  Didn't get much sleep last night.....the temperatures around here has been cold as well.  Will it ever warm up?  Every week I think we might be able to turn down the heat a little, and every week it seems to get colder.

I am so READY for SPRING to start.  Since Washington is not cooperating much, I figured I would paint my own spring.  Here is my version of crows on a spring tree. I wish I could just jump inside my painting.....

For now, I will grab a cup of hot chocolate, a warm blanket and dream of warmer days.
