Festival Season Madness!

Me, Travelcarla

You guys!  Dan and I survived Coupeville Arts and Crafts Fest last weekend!  Sooooo amazingly FUN!  We had an over-the-top show, I can't believe it!  It was such a fun venue and the first time we have ever attended.  We met a ton of awesome vendors and some wonderful guests in my booth.  We had quite a sell out and I have been working my bootie off all this week to get ready for two more major festivals.  Who's idea was it to do three in a row? Ha! Ha!  I can't believe Dan hasn't killed me yet.  Here are a couple of snaps from last weeks show.

ab2Hope some of you can make it out to the show!

If you can't make it to Anacortes maybe next week you can find us at LAKE CHELAN ART FESTIVAL.  Keep your fingers crossed and your prayers sent.....the fire over there doesn't look good.  Thinking of all the families that live there.  Stay tuned.

Self Portraits of Me, a personal journey.

Me, Mixed Media, Paintingcarla

You guys....

I am stuck painting girls with feathers and flowers in their hair.  I just can't help it. Maybe it is from a rough emotional year?   I am not to sure, but I can tell you that each and every one of these girls is a personal self portrait of me.  How I am feeling that day, what I want to be. Lessons to myself you could say. I am not sure why I am so in love with this "Girl in the Striped Tights Series".  I think it is my personal outlet.  Those that know me well know that I am tight lipped on sharing my own true personal feelings.  Granted, I talk. I talk a lot. In fact, sometimes I can't stop talking, ha, ha....but it usually isn't about deep personal things. These girls are so fun for me to create and therefore I am going to just keep making them.  They make me feel good, and I love sharing them with you.  I feel so blessed to be even creating these little pieces of art. I sure hope you enjoy them as much as I love making them!

Don't you worry though....I am creating other paintings too, silly animals, circle flowers and happy martinis. The children's book is coming along.  It has been much harder than I had anticipated, but it is getting there!  I am currently all caught up on commissions and am buckling down to get ready for these upcoming art festivals.  So nervous and excited all at the same time!

I wanted to share with you a few of my most recent mixed media self -portraits:

You-got-this,blog-1

Hold-on-to-each-other-blog Go-Run

Do you have a creative outlet?  I would love to hear what you do to get feelings out.  Write in a journal? Art journaling? Yoga?

Hope you all have a super weekend!  It is suppose to be in the nineties here in the Pacific Northwest!!! I am soooooo excited!!!

Happy Friday

Goldfish Kiss - The progression of a painting

Paintingcarla

Hey guys!  Just finished up a big painting a few days ago.  I forgot how much I LOVE painting big.  I don't get a chance to do it very often because they are hard to sell at art festivals when they won't even fit into your car, ha! ha!  I have several large painting hung in my house, and love them so much!  This one was painted to hang in my living room and is titled "GOLDFISH KISS."  It has about 25 layers of paint on it. It is so freeing to paint like this, large strokes painting over and over.  I called this one my "Outside Muse" because I would often paint on the back patio on sunny summer days.  This painting has taken me almost a year to complete, check it out:

You can see this guy up close and personal, and will be for sale at the Anacortes Arts Festival! Hope to see you there!!!  Happy Summer!

Thank you Anacortes!

Holy smokes it has been quite a week!  I just wanted to do a quick thank you shout out to Anacortes!  What a great festival it was last weekend.  I was so excited to be a part of Ink Alley, the first Indie Craft Area!  Dan and I had a great time, learned the ropes of attending and being a part of such a big festival.  We have a lot to learn when it comes to competing with the big wigs!  I loved everything about Ink Alley.  All of the indie crafters were so talented!  I couldn't decide what I liked the most....the yeti heads or the stuffed wiener dogs, so fun!  Here are a few pics below of the event.  All and all it was a huge success and THANK YOU to all who came out and attended!!!  I sure hope I get in next year!

The Heart of the Market

Farmers Marketcarla1 Comment

This summer has been my 4th summer at the Anacortes Farmers Market.  I was able to jump on board right after we moved from Friday Harbor.  Being a vendor at the market was one of the best decisions I ever made.  First of all, it is where I met my first friends here in Anacortes.  One of my very best friends is Keri the market manager.  Who knows where I would be if I hadn't met her.  She let me into the market and showed me the ropes about Anacortes. I love so many of the vendors, it is like I have a second family on Saturday mornings.  Second, it has been really great for my business.  I have repeat customers, collectors, and the community recognizes my art.  It has been overall a wonderful experience to be a part of this community weekly event.

Well, this past weekend was one of those awful days.  If you are a vendor, you will know what I am talking about.  It was one of those jaw-dropping, knock the wind out of you,  barely make your booth fee kind of days.   A few little sales here and there but overall have a horrible business day. Nobody buys anything, and you just sit there.  You sit there and think.  These days are the worst, especially this last Saturday.  The sun was out, lots of people milling around, a beautiful July Saturday morning.  You wonder why nobody is going into your booth, you start second guessing everything.  Your art stinks, you shouldn't be here, you are wasting your time and everyone else's just being there.  You should stop breathing because you taking someone else's oxygen....someone better than you. :)

I hate those kind of days.  Not from the fact  that I didn't make any money, but from the fact that I will continue to sabotage myself and second guess everything.  It was especially hard sitting down there all day after coming off of a great festival the weekend before.  I did have one older gentleman come seek me out after seeing my art at Starbucks, that made me feel good.

So, as I sat there feeling awful about myself, I really started thinking about the market.  This farmers market has been SO MUCH MORE about making money for my business. It is a second family to me, a part of me, something I truly love being a part of.  The heart of the market isn't about sales, it is about community.  Granted, (I know what you are thinking) of course we all have to make a little money otherwise we wouldn't be there...but it is so much more than that!!!  I love that little community market.  The customers, the vendors, the food, the dogs, the music, Clover, the balloon fairy, all of it.  THAT is the HEART of the market.

So, I put my pride aside.....realized that there are good days and bad days in sales, took a deep breath realized I was just happy to be there.

Weekends are Flying Fast!

Art Journaling, Farmers Market, Paintingcarla

Holy Smokers.....the weekends are flying by like a whirlwind!  Last weekend was so crammed, I can't believe we made it through!  We started off the weekend with the Fish Show here in Anacortes.  I could not believe how many people were out and about for First Friday Art Walk, YAY!  Swarms of people everywhere!  So amazing to see people supporting local art! I paid Ally to be my date for the night..(which she did for 5 minutes and then ended up ditching me for friends)...here we are loving my mermaid painting, ha! ha!

weekend1

After checking out the Fish Show, I did hit several studio's to check out some other local artists.  KP Studio's had the high school student show for spring.  My daughter's friend Breanna Blakely made this amazing sculpture!  I told Ally to make sure to stay friends with her so we can have her autograph things when she is famous! Go Breanna!!! :)

weekend7

On Saturday, I spent most of the day at the market by myself. :(  This is pretty unusual because Dan is almost always with me.  He was suffering from "Pain in the Ass" syndrome.  Literally!  He fell on his tailbone a few weeks ago at Absolute Air, a trampoline park in Arlington.  He was trying to be all "hip and cool" and showed the kids how to do a double back flip jumpy thing, but things went horribly awry. Instead of landing on his feet....he landed...well.....on his butt with his legs in the air............ON THE METAL BAR that had maybe a centimeter of padding!!!!  AGH!!!!  He bruised his Coccyx and is having a REALLY HARD TIME (snicker, snicker).  Instead of sharing a picture of his butt, I will spare you and provide this photo of my booth at the market... (you owe me)

weekend

After the market, I dropped off Ally at the Catapult Fest, a music concert at the Port Warehouse.  I was suppose to go and watch her friend Pearl Tottenham open for the show but I ended up giving up my tickets to my daughter's friends. (that is whole other story, but I can tell you I got the better end of the bargain.)  Pearl and Ally have been friends for a long time.  I can remember when Pearl would be belting out of tune songs in the car in grade school!  So amazing that she was able to preform at the concert, and pretty bummed that I missed it! Here is a flyer that I found in town:

Sunday was cleaning out the garage day, which was much needed!  We now can park in there AND open our car doors!  YAY US!

I did get a few hours of down time and was able to get some art journaling in...here are couple of pages:

P.s. My brother Clayton really did graduate Valdictorian....and I hate him for being such a SMARTYPANTS!!!!!!  No fair!!!!  How come I have to the be the flighty air-head artist one???

Hope you guys all had a great weekend too!  We are gearing up for another crazy weekend ahead....only this time??? Seattle, visit with out-of-state relatives, a market and TWO BIRTHDAYS!!!!  AGH!!!!  Stay tuned, I am slowing going out of my mind, so the next blog post should be interesting!!! :)

Mixed Media Class!

Mixed Media, teachingcarlaComment

Yay for my mixed media class last weekend, so fun!  I had the pleasure of teaching 5 wonderful ladies the technique of layering and learning how to be brave!  Wow, that was a lesson all in itself!  We all had a great time and hopefully everyone learned a few new tricks.  My goal was that everyone left with some creative spark and hopefully learned about new supplies in mixed media!

We started off the morning creating our backgrounds for our owl paintings. The first step involved mark-making.....lots and lots of layers:

class

After laying paint down on canvas we continued on and also worked on canvas panel creating a collage with scrapbooking papers.  This would be used later for a second painting.  Everyone loved gluing and picking out their papers!

class2class3class4

For lunch we were able to sit out on the patio and enjoy our sandwiches, pasta salad, and pretzels and hummus.  Oh, and did I mention that we also had HOMEMADE COOKIES!!!  Delish

After lunch we finished our owls!  Look how cute they turned out!

class5class7-use

After the owls were painted, everyone got to play around with painting on paper and using various mixed media supplies including markers, tissue, decoupage, paints, and lace.

Adventures with my fitbit...... :)

Art Journaling, Dieting, Me, Runningcarla1 Comment

It is confession time.  Sit down, hold on, here we go....  "Hi my name is Carla and I am addicted to my fitbit" (ok, I know I have already told you this before, but now we are on a whole new level) What is a fitbit you ask?  Oh, just this silly wristband pedometer  I wear that has totally TAKEN OVER MY LIFE!  This my second attempt with the fitbit, the first go-around, I had it taken away from me because I was obsessing and hurting myself.

Let us travel back a few months to the holidays.  Dan bought me a fitbit for a Christmas present.  I fell head over heels in love with it!  I programmed it into my IPhone and it tracks everything I do!  It monitors my steps, calories in and calories out, how well I am sleeping, and even how many pounds I need to lose!  It was love at first site!

fitbitI didn't care for the color at first, I am more of a hot pink girl, but it grew on me and now I love that fact that it blends in with most of my outfits!  So anyways, lets get back to why I had my fitbit taken away the first time.  If you remember a while back, I was injured training for a marathon last summer and was not suppose to be on my feet very much.  It was a tendonitis injury so the more repetition the worse it would get.  Needless to say, as soon as I received my new Christmas present, off I went.  I was walking 5 miles a day, tracking calories and lost 6 pounds pretty quickly.....all was going well...until....OUCH!!!! My leg started flaring up again.  Dan then proceeded to take my gift away and hide it in the closet until I became injury free!

It has now been a few months and he told me I am allowed to try it again, as long as I don't obsess about it.  (which I still do, muahahahahaha!) One of my favorite things about this pedometer that you can become "fitbit friends" with someone and track their steps too!  For example, my friend Scott, who thinks is super awesome....(which he isn't by the way) makes fun of me when he notices I haven't walked very much on a certain day.  He is one of those guys who is on his feet all day (pretending to work) so he easily gets his 10,000 steps in....and then some.  My goal is to kick his booty all the way to China!  This week is THE WEEK I think I can actually WIN! I am already ahead of him!  YAY ME!

fitbit6

I haven't been doing well at tracking calories...due to the sheer fact that I am lazy; AND............. I do not want to be held accountable for the potato salad that I just shoved into my mouth.  Mmmm.....burp, that was delish......

The fitbit makes exercise fun and has gotten my big old booty off the couch and back exercising again.  If you don't have one, I really encourage you to go out and purchase one.  They have many different makes and models; prices vary depending on what you are looking for.  If you are a game player or enjoy little challenges like me, this gadget it for you!  I happen to have the flex, which is the wristband.  I would be cautious when purchasing a fitbit "One," I have seen these out on the road or trails when they have fallen off while running.

Here are a couple shots of my morning walk (these morning walks are my secret enemy attacks against Scott...he is going down this week for sure!).....I sure do love where I live.  Thank you Anacortes for being so hip and beautiful.....

fitbit2fitbit4fitbitbikefitbit3As you can see, I live in one of the coolest places in the world!!  So grateful that I live here!!!  Well, I am off to get more steps in before Scott catches up with me!  Oh and did I mention????  I am back running again....trying not to over-do it but I did run this the other day:

Sick and Busy....

Farmers Market, MecarlaComment

AGH you guys!!!  I have been so sick!  Haven't been this sick in years and I feel like it is never going to go all the way away!  I am on my 9th day, and still feel bad......although I think I have rounded the bend and starting to mend.  (Did you catch that? It rhymed!)  Sorry I haven't kept my promise of blogging twice a week, I just couldn't do it!  Things have been so hectic around here and I truly feel like I am one step away from a nervous breakdown.  Between the car accident, being sick, art deadlines, and the washer breaking I feel as though I have been hit by a bus!

I have this horrible habit of over committing myself and never saying no.  I have sat back and realized that I could have said "no" to several things last week and my life would have been so much easier and maybe I wouldn't have gotten quite so sick.  I should have said "no" to having a  booth at the farmers market on Saturday.  I should have said "no" to the lady that wanted her painting finished by this week.  I should have said "no" to the repair guy when he asked if it was ok to bring the washer next week.  I should have said "no".  Bottom line.....I need to learn how to give myself a break!  My entire life has been this path of overcommitting, and trying to make everyone else happy.  You would think at the age of 40 I would have figured it out. :)  Do you ever overcommit?

I am taking today to give my body time to heal, take a rest and try not to feel guilty about it.

Here are a few pics from the weekend.  It started off like this:

weekendthen I ran over to the laundry mat to wash everyone's clothes (which wasn't the best idea I have ever had):

weekend-2 after the laundry got done I felt like this (WARNING: be prepared for gigantic sick selfie):

weekend-1Soooooo......with that being said.....the lesson of this blog post????? STOP DOING SO MUCH STUFF AND TAKE TIME TO LET YOUR BODY HEAL!  LEARN HOW TO SAY NO!!!!!!

I admit it, I totally over did it this weekend and paid the price.  Lesson learned.  (Ya right).

We are gearing up for Memorial Day Weekend here in Anacortes.  I have my fingers crossed for sunshine!!!

Hope to see you at the market, we will be there! (and I promise not to show up if I am super sick, ha! ha!)

Wow guys!  This has been the craziest week EVER!!!!!  I promised to blog atleast twice a week, so here I am.  Truly.... I am in a big fat rush and haven't had one single minute to relax this week.  Soooo.....on that note, let me wrap this up in a nutshell.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Ok, so the second crazy piece to this CRaZY is that this happened:

friday-1I am soooo grateful that THIS GUY is alright!!!

friday-2Long story short, just our luck that he gets hit by a crazy drug lady driving on a suspended license and NO INSURANCE!  Ugh.  What a week.  Did I mention that our  washer broke yesterday too?  I am seriously ready for a new week.....now where is my glass of wine? :)

Happy Friday (and I did it!!! Two blog posts this week!!! YAY ME!!)

Welcome April

Farmers Market, Mixed Media, Paintingcarla

Welcome Spring!  Yep, pretty much been forever since I have been on here.  So busy between art and my ortho job.  Lots going on with the family too!  The kids are busy in activities, parents have been sick, and there just doesn't seem like there is enough time in the day.

I don't have a ton of time this morning but I wanted to share some recent art that I have been working on!

Koi

Dan and I also did a quick trial run a few weeks ago with some new additions to our art booth, what do you think?

I wish we would have added the back wall when we took the picture but some people commented that they like how open the space was.  We are gearing up for the farmers market that begins next month.  I sat down and went over our summer schedule.  We are booked every weekend from May 10th until September!  AGH!!!!  Gonna be one CRAZY summer!  I can't wait!!  We added some extra art festivals this season.  I am currently working on a schedule so you are able to find me!

I am also starting to teach classes, so stay tuned for more information.

Happy Spring!

Adventures in Homebrewing......

Family, Mixed Media, PaintingcarlaComment

As some of you know, my better half likes to make beer.  Not just any beer, but the pretty much the best beer around,  or that is what I have heard anyway.  I am not to much of a beer person.....but I do like a good brew every now and then.  A few weeks ago Dan upgraded to an all grain brewing system and has been brewing up a storm. Every day when I pull into the garage I try not to cringe as I look to the right and see that he has now taken up a whole wall in the garage with homebrew equipment!  AGH! It is taking over!  Against my better judgement, I added to his homebrew supplies with a few Christmas gifts, what was I thinking?

Last week he tried using his new glass flask on the stove....it ended up boiling over all over his hand!  Who knew that homebrewing could be so dangerous? Ha! Ha! Hmmm....maybe I should have bought that Ove-Glove for his stocking?  After a trip to the doctors for some burn cream and some bandages, he is as good as new!  Well besides that peeling disgusting black and red bloody skin coming off of his hand! Yeah!

I decided to make a painting for his Homebrew Dunce Award:

Water, Malt, Hops, Yeast and Magic!!!  The recipe for a perfect homebrew!!!!!  Homebrew prints coming soon to my ETSY shop!

On a side note...what about those Seahawks???  They are going all the way baby!!!!!  Here is a photo of me holding my favorite homebrew all snuggled up in Seahawks watching the game!

Looking for some of my art here in Anacortes?  Swing by "Recaptured" in Little Chicago....next to Anthony's at the intersection of 11th street and Q.  They just opened up their tiny shop last month, and it is adorable!!! You really must swing by and check it out!  It is full of beautiful hand painted wooden bowls, unique one of a kind jewelry by Laura Ferguson, and handcrafted pillows from Vintage Hen.  They are open every weekend Friday and Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 11-4.  Here is a peek:

See you there!

An 80 degree Spring?

Familycarla

Are you sitting down?  You might want to, I have some shocking news!  A few weeks ago we got up into the 80's here in WASHINGTON!!!!  HECK YES!   This rarely happens around here, even the dead middle summer we hardly ever see 80 degree weather.  (and please remind me again on why I live here?)

Let me let you in on a little secret.  I tend to get a little nutty about the weather when the forecast calls for sun and warm temperatures.  Just ask Dan.  I actually feel a bit sorry for him.  As soon as the forecast calls for nice weather....I am rushing around the house planning  and packing things.  All kind of things.  I bust out the swimsuits, towels, frisbees, the cooler, everything I can think of.   The whole family knows that I go into "sun mode" and they don't even dare whine or argue about anything that I come with for things to do.  When the sun is out, I make the whole family be outside for the WHOLE day....hiking, biking, trips to the beach, going to the park walking around town, and blah, blah, blah.  I don't even let them come inside to eat or brush their teeth.  I have them so well trained. :)

We decided to enjoy a Sunday beach day.  We packed up some lunches and the kids each brought a friend. The day was filled with making memories on the beach.  Digging holes, riding logs in the water, sun tanning, reading and best of all???  Eating.  It was so relaxing and fun!  I even won a "double-dog" dare and went swimming!!! (Ok, not actually swimming, but I did go all the way in!!!!  Brrr it was FREEZING!  I am very proud of myself because Dan was a little baby and stayed on the shore!)  I sure hope this is a sign to come for a warm and sunny summer.  As I look out the window right now, it is grey, raining, and miserable.  I will just keep remembering the memories of us at the beach in 85 degree weather in April!

Oh ya, and here is another thing I wanted to talk to you about!!!!  Look at my chin!!!!  All these years have gone by and NOBODY has TOLD me that I HAVE A JAY LENO CHIN???  What is up with that?  From now on, just call me "Jay".......

On another note, check out these AWESOME funky, crazy, hip, hippy, hipster, rockin' pants I found on the clearance rack at JCPENNY's the other day.  $4.00 baby!!!!  You only live once right????  I think I may wear them everyday.  Poor Dan.

:)

Yes. I am still alive.

Good Golly!  Now this is quite embarrassing. It has been weeks since I have posted anything on here.  IT gets worst too!!!!  It has been months since I have painted!!!!  Ok, well, that is a little bit of a lie.  I painted two days ago....but was only able to get two little mini-paintings done.  Honestly, I am in quite a bit of a panic.  The farmers market opening day is LESS THAN two weeks away.  I need new paintings!!!!!

2013 has been rough. I can't even say that I like this year yet.  I was really burnt out on the holiday shows last year and decided to take a break for about a month.  (which ended up being 4 months) I lost all inspiration to paint anything.  Just when I felt like painting again, we moved.  The move itself was a HUGE project.  UGH.  Remind me never to move again!  On a good note, we are pretty much all settled in and loving the new home.  We walk everywhere and I don't even use the car anymore!  YEAH!

Not really to sure where Carla's Funky Art is headed anymore.  I cut way back on the market dates this year.  I can't even say for sure if I will even be doing this next year. It takes a ton of time to complete original paintings....working part-time, taking care of kids and the house....doesn't leave leave much left for anything else.   I really have been going round and round about getting a full-time 8-5 job with a steady income.  Don't get me wrong, I love to paint!  I think the part I don't like about my business is having to have so much inventory.  What if I quit doing this???  Well, then I will have failed miserably...and THAT makes me want to crawl under a rock.  Maybe I should just take it another direction?  Must do some soul-searching and re-eval over the summer season.

Here are my little paintings that I did the other day:

On a side note.....Dan and I just finished up our Biggest Loser Challenge today.  After 5 months of losing weight AND maintaining, we are both WINNERS!!!!  He lost 16 pounds and 8.77% body fat....I lost 15 pounds and 9.85% body fat!! I WON $340.00 bucks today!!!! YAHOOOO!!!!  It has been so fun doing it together! :)  I have been really trying hard to make healthy dinners.  In fact the other day I wanted to try making "sweet potato burgers".......it looked really good online, the picture was beautiful!  Well, when I tried to make them, they turned out horrible....here is my version:

I was so frustrated!  I made a huge mess in the kitchen....it took forever, and ended up making a "castle with a tunnel"  (you know....like a sand castle)... out of my sweet potato mush!!!!  Ummm.......no wonder Dan is losing so much weight! :)

Happy Wednesday!

Hey, why don’t you TAKE A HIKE!!! Ok, not really. :)

Dieting, Family, Travelcarla1 Comment

Well, here we go again.  That time of year when I yearn to get outside.  I have such a hard time getting through yet another Washington winter.  You would think after all these years that I would be numb to all this rain, damp and cold, but the truth is.....it is really hard.  It takes a toll on me, and I love to get outside any chance I get.

Had a great weekend here at the house.  Got two commissioned pieces done that I will share with you tomorrow.  Orion had his friend Logan over for a "stay the night"....what a blast they had. XBOX PARTY ALL NIGHT LONG!!!  I have never seen two boys eat so much in my life.  When I say eat, I mean EAT!!!!  I pride myself on eating organic healthy food here at the house, and I am ashamed at what I let them consume. Here is small fraction of what went down here at the house in the last 24 hours: Little Caesars Pizza washed down with Pepsi, followed by.....Klondike Bars for dessert!!!! The next day they ate stacks and stacks of pancakes smeared with butter, syrup, and BACON!!! (every thing is better with bacon!!!) Lunch was served out of the box by an arch nemesis named KRAFT......yep, you guessed it.....MAC AND CHEESE!!!!! GROSS!!!  After all this processed guilt I figured I better get the boys outside and exercising!  We headed for the lake and got our hiking on!   We tried to ignored the rain and trudged on......

The boys at the start of the hike........

Logan and I made it to the top of the huge rock!  Hey, how do you like that AWESOME Sock Monkey hat???? Cool, I know!!!!! :)

Proof that Dan and I actually did take the kids hiking and didn't just dump them off in the forest for an hour!!!!

Almost to the end of the lake!

Instead of "Boyz in da Hood"......I will call them "Boyz on da Rock!" " :)

After we got done with our 3 mile hike Dan and I treated them to yet another junk food.  What can I say, I am such a sucker!!!!  We headed to TOPPINGS, the new frozen yogurt place here in Anacortes!!!!  All in all, it was a FANTASTIC day!  We got outside, had a blast, and burned some calories!!!

Speaking of calories.....Dan and I have almost lost 10 pounds EACH since the holidays!!!! Oh yeah baby!!!!!  Take a good look now because we might shrink away!

Happy Sunday!

WOW, now this is a little embarrassing. I haven't posted in almost a month. Yikes.  I do have a couple of GREAT excuses.  For starters, I found my watercolor art journal, and I CANNOT stop journaling.  Every night I sit down and go crazy at the kitchen table, I am obsessed!  Second, Dan and I started a "Biggest Loser Challenge" and I have been working my butt off (literally) ever since! :)

This next weekend is The Whimsey of Women Art Show at the Depot.

I have been gearing up for a whimsical show.  I have done an Anacortes series through my eyes. :)  All colorful and funky! Here are a few recent pieces:

Ahhhh....the "Gere-a-Deli" statue!  Every Thursday I am fortunate enough to eat lunch at an AMAZING hip restaraunt!  The little copper guy in the painting above is there to greet you at the door on your way in.  The first time I laid eyes on him, I knew I had to do a silly fun bright painting, he is SO COOL!   Gere-a-Deli is the BEST place in Anacortes for sandwiches, soup and salads!  It is always packed, no matter what time you show up.  If you are ever in the area, you MUST swing by and grab a bite, you will love it.....

Another piece I have been working on is the Anacortes oil refinery.  I have heard so many negative comments about how ugly or smelly the refinery is.  I think it is beautiful.  :)  Have you ever driven my the refinery at night?  It looks like a little city and all the lights sparkle off the water.  The refinery is such a big part of Anacortes, it keeps people employed and the city alive.  I don't even mind the stinky smell it gives off.....(ok, sometimes I do, I admit it.)

Here is my refinery:

The picture is horribly blurry, I think I better start taking some photography classes! Whaaaa!

Hope to see you this weekend at THE DEPOT!

Wow! A Whirlwind Month!

Holy Smokes Batman...November is already coming to an end?  Oh ya, thats right, I haven't had a chance to sit down since this month has started!  Ha! Ha!  What a fun, exhausting, adventurous month it has been!  Dan and I have been so busy traveling around selling art at holiday shows.  We kicked it off with Holiday Fest in Poulsbo....got to see some wonderful old friends.....then headed to the Anacortes Holiday Market at the Port Warehouse.  I can't express enough how much I love this little town.  Our third show just wrapped up down in Gig Harbor.  We spent the week at my dad's having Thanksgiving, doing some Black Friday shopping, then headed to Winterfest at Peninsula High School.

Here is what I have learned the past month:

1. Yes, no matter what....we have to bring portable lighting, the paintings "pop."

2. Do not pick a holiday show that doesn't have a Starbucks close by. Not good folks.

3. Read your Square manual before you have to do a refund, that was a little stressful. :)

4. Bring a ton of extra cash, Dan eats all day long.....

5. Buy a dolly.....that way we don't have to make 50 trips back and forth to the car.

6. Bring something to do. A book? Some paints? Sundays can be long.

7. When taking two cars, always pick the car that the kids are not in.

8. Always look nice, you never know when you are going to see your first boyfriend from when you were 10.

Thank you to everyone that came by, said hi....and all of those of you who supported my art!  I had a wonderful year!  With the holiday shows wrapped up, I am gearing up for Christmas myself!  This weekend the decorations will be flying through the air.....the tree will be popped up....and may the hot buttered rums be poured freely (that's Dan's job since he doesn't like to help decorate.)  I plan on being extra obnoxious with the Christmas tunes this year.....Dan and kiddies really like that!   They "extra-like" when I sing them myself and dance!!! :)

Stay tuned, commissioned pieces will be blogged soon!

Happy Holidays!
